Two more petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed 22nd Amendment Bill have reportedly been filed before the Supreme Court yesterday (21).
The latest petitions were filed by the Lawyers’ Organisation of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the “Dinana Dakuna” collective.
With the filing of the two new petitions, the total number of petitions challenging the Bill before the Supreme Court has increased to 13.
The petitioners have requested the Supreme Court to determine that the proposed Bill, if it is to be enacted, must be approved by the people at a referendum.
