August 27, Colombo (LNW): No Sri Lankan citizens have been reported missing following the severe flash floods that hit Nepal’s Rasuwa district, according to the latest update from the Nepal Tourism Board.
Authorities say 644 people remain unaccounted for. The figure includes 517 foreign nationals representing 32 countries, alongside 127 Nepalese citizens.
Indian nationals make up the largest group of foreigners listed as missing, with 178 people. The updated figures also include 65 Americans, 53 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians and 35 Australians. Thirty-three British nationals and 25 Canadians are among those whose whereabouts have yet to be confirmed.
The missing persons list spans a wide range of nationalities. It includes nine Singaporeans, eight Germans, eight Russians, six Latvians, six South Africans, five Japanese and five New Zealanders. Four French nationals, three Belgians and three Spaniards are also reported missing.
Two people each from Italy, Ireland, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands and Portugal are included in the figures. Single cases have also been recorded among nationals of Belarus, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, the Philippines, Serbia, Sweden and Switzerland.
The figures are expected to remain subject to change as authorities gather further information from affected areas. Nepalese security personnel and emergency response teams are continuing search and rescue operations, while relief workers are assisting communities affected by the floods and trying to establish the whereabouts of those still missing.
