The Cabinet has approved a Rs. 173.86 million consultancy services contract for a sustainable tourism sector development programme funded through a US$30 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The programme is aimed at improving tourism facilities in the Dambulla-Sigiriya and Trincomalee areas while rehabilitating and upgrading infrastructure at selected tourist attractions.
The Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development called for expressions of interest to select a consultancy firm to prepare detailed plans for the programme and support its implementation.
Expressions of interest were submitted by 15 consultancy firms, following which proposals were invited from six firms. Five proposals were subsequently evaluated, with the contract recommended for award to Sri Lankan firms M/s Resources Development Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, in association with M/s Novel Interdisciplinary Consulting Enterprise (Pvt) Ltd.
The Cabinet-appointed Consultancy Procurement Committee recommended awarding the contract for Rs. 173.86 million, excluding Value Added Tax (VAT).
The Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake to award the contract in accordance with the committee’s recommendation.
