IMF Team Begins 14-Day Mission to Assess Sri Lanka’s Economic Reform Progress
September 10, Colombo (LNW): A team from the International Monetary Fund is set to begin a two-week mission in Sri Lanka today as part of efforts to assess the country’s progress under its ongoing economic reform programme.
The delegation, headed by IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Evan Papageorgiou, will remain in the country until September 23. Its principal task will be to carry out the combined seventh review of Sri Lanka’s commitments under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility programme.
During the mission, IMF officials are expected to hold a series of discussions with senior government representatives, Central Bank officials and other key stakeholders involved in the country’s economic policy and reform process.
The talks are likely to examine the latest developments in Sri Lanka’s macroeconomic position, prospects for sustainable economic growth and progress on structural reforms. The two sides are also expected to consider the priorities and policy measures that will shape the next phase of the programme.
The review comes as Sri Lanka continues to focus on maintaining economic stability while implementing reforms aimed at strengthening public finances, improving investor confidence and supporting a durable recovery.
