September 27, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka is considering the prospect of bringing the Miss Universe pageant to the island, as authorities examine how a major international event could strengthen the country’s tourism appeal and raise its profile overseas.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath recently held talks with representatives connected to the Miss Universe Organisation over the possibility of Sri Lanka becoming a host country for the prestigious global competition.
Among those attending the discussions were Olivia Quido, Vice President of Global Partnerships at the Miss Universe Organisation, and Caroline Jurie, former Mrs World 2020 and Founder and Chairperson of Caroline J Global Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. The company’s Co-Founders and Directors, Nishan Deepal and Kusal Perera, also took part in the meeting.
The discussions centred on the potential benefits of staging the pageant in Sri Lanka, particularly its ability to place the country before a large international audience and showcase its tourism attractions.
Hosting an event of such international stature could also provide an opportunity for Sri Lanka to demonstrate its capacity to organise large-scale global gatherings, while creating wider exposure for the country’s hospitality, culture and visitor destinations.
The talks form part of broader efforts to explore opportunities that could enhance Sri Lanka’s presence on the international tourism and events circuit.
