Flood-Hit O/L Students in Sabaragamuwa to Receive Alternative Dates for Practical Exams
October 27, Colombo (LNW): Students in Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa Province who are unable to attend their G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) aesthetic practical examinations because of flooding will be given an opportunity to sit the tests on an alternative date, examination authorities have confirmed.
Commissioner General of Examinations A. K. S. Indika Kumari Liyanage has assured affected candidates that missing an examination due to difficulties caused by the adverse weather will not prevent them from completing their practical assessments.
Students who cannot travel safely to their designated examination centres are advised to contact the relevant centres after floodwaters have receded and conditions have improved. Arrangements can then be made for them to undertake the missed practical examinations on a subsequent date.
The provision is intended to ease the pressure on candidates whose journeys have been disrupted by flooded roads and unsafe travel conditions as heavy rain continues to affect parts of the province.
Authorities have urged students and their families to prioritise safety rather than attempt to reach examination venues through dangerous areas. Those affected should follow the instructions issued by examination officials and make the necessary arrangements once access to their centres becomes possible.
The decision is expected to provide reassurance to students preparing for an important stage of their education, ensuring that weather-related travel difficulties do not unfairly disadvantage candidates sitting the national examination.
