789,242 families in Sri Lanka do not have a permanent home – Housing Development Authority
Housing Development Authority reveals that 789,242 families in Sri Lanka do not have a permanent home. It also reveals that the number of houses built using temporary roofs is 486,426.
When considering the number of families without a permanent house, it has been revealed that the number of families living in temporary houses is 278,192, 44,419 families live in coconut thatched houses, 216,197 families do not have any land or a house, and 166,841 families do have land but do not have a house.
Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Urban Development and Housing confirms many houses with temporary roofs in Puttalam, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kandy and Badulla.
