Parliament prorogued
The sessions in the Sri Lanka Parliament have ended from midnight today (26).
A gazette announcement issued by President Ranil Wickramasinghe has ended the parliamentary term, and it states that the parliamentary term will be ended by the powers assigned to him by Article 70 of the Constitution.
Accordingly, the President has stated in his gazette announcement that the next session of the Parliament will begin on February 7 at 10.30 am.
As such, by ending the term of the Parliament, many committees of the Parliament, including COPE and COPA, will be abolished, and after the resumption of the Parliament, members will have to be appointed anew to those committees.
