UN representatives meet NPP leaders
The UN’s representative in Sri Lanka, the peace and development adviser and its analyst, met the leaders of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP), including its leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The meeting took place at the JVP head office at Pelawatta yesterday (9). The following is the statement issued to the media:
On [9th], a meeting between United Nations Resident Coordinator for Sri Lanka Marc-André Franche and Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, was held at the JVP head office in Pelawatta.
Mr Patrick McCarthy, UN Peace and Development Advisor, Ms Nethmini Medawala, peace and development analyst, and Comrade Vijitha Herath, National Executive Member of National People’s Power, were also present.
The meeting saw a comprehensive discussion on the current human rights situation in Sri Lanka, the unity and reconciliation process, and the ethical system to be followed by political parties in the upcoming election process. The UN representatives emphasized their close monitoring of the reconciliation process, while the NPP leaders reiterated their party’s commitment to an ethical political culture and expressed full support for the proposals presented by the representatives.
