Central Bank’s Nandalal has robbed people’s rights
The detailed statistical data that was available so far in the annual report released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has been greatly restricted, and the public’s right to information has been taken away under the current president, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.
Until now, the Central Bank’s annual reports have been published, combining data, reviews, and analyses depicting the country’s socio-economic background. However, the data, analysis, and comments in the report presented in relation to the last year, 2023, have been limited to a very limited range.
A stark illustration of this is the drastic reduction in the number of pages dedicated to detailed data in the annual report for the year 2023. From a substantial 161 pages in 2022, it has plummeted to a mere 31 pages. This alarming decrease underscores the extent to which the public’s right to information has been compromised, revealing a disturbing trend of concealing crucial information from the public.
