A smack on Basil

It is revealed that a private discussion between the appointed President, Ranil Wickranamasinghe, and the former National Organizer of the Pohottu Party, Basil Rajapaksa, later turned into a debate between groups and escalated into a violent verbal attack.
Ranil Wickremasinghe had invited a group, including Prasanna Ranatunga and a group of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, to the discussion without informing Basil Rajapaksa. A discussion was started regarding the creation of a new alliance, and Basil Rajapaksa, speaking, stated that the alliance discussion should be taken after a personal-level discussion between him and Ranil Wickrasamasinghe.
After Basil Rajapaksa’s comment, Prasanna Ranatunga emphasized that a broad alliance should be formed to work for Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory. He had said Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna should be there, but Rajapaksas should not be in that alliance. It is reported that Basil Rajapaksa, angered by this verbal abuse directed at him, severely scolded Prasanna Ranatunga and the group and left.
