The victory of September 21 was assured by the tens of thousands of teachers who gathered at the teacher’s conference, says KD Lalkantha, the National Executive Member of the National People’s Power and the President of the National Trade Union Centre,
He emphasized this when speaking at the National Conference of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union, which was held on the 2nd at Maligawatta P.D. Sirisena Stadium.
Speaking further, KD Lalkantha said, “The teachers of our country are the people who started the struggle to send Gotabaya Rajapaksa home. Political commentators have written in the past that teachers and principals started the struggle against Gotabaya’s rule. Likewise, we are sure that teachers will play the most important role in ending the evil rule of seventy-six years. By coming to this conference today in your thousands, you have made many politicians of this country scared of what they have done to the country.
Sajith Premadasa was the first to get scared. Next, Ranil got frightened. All the reactionary forces are afraid today. All the progressive forces are happy today. You have guaranteed the September 21 victory. It is certain that the victory of the progressives and the oppressed, who had not won for so long, has been confirmed by this teachers’ conference. In the past, we had a lot of struggles regarding teachers’ salaries and other issues. Earlier, we were not allowed by the so-called executives to come to the battlefield called election.
For the first time in Sri Lanka, ‘Malimawa’ has the chance to enter the election arena with the oppressed and progressive forces and raise the flag of victory. This is a historic opportunity, and we urge you to join our organizations in your village for the electoral battleground, fill two-thirds of the ballot box with the ‘compass’ and lay the foundation for the ‘Renaissance Era’.
