Anura Kumara Dissanayake sworn in as the ninth Executive President of Sri Lanka
Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, was sworn in as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka this morning (23rd) in the presence of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at the President’s Secretariat in Colombo.
NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the 2024 presidential election by obtaining 5,740,179 votes. His victory will go down in history as the first president of the country to be elected by a socialist-leaning party that had only 03 seats in the parliament.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake contested for the presidency in the 2019 presidential election, but he received only 03% of the total votes cast.
