24-hour solutions to visa problems – back to the old way
The NPP government has worked to provide solutions to the major issue of obtaining visas.
As such, Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath has emphasized that all foreigners will be able to obtain visas according to the old system starting at 12:00 midnight yesterday (26).
Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath, speaking on the issue, said, “The people were greatly affected by giving the visa facility to the VFS. Foreigners coming to Sri Lanka had to face a problematic situation in obtaining visas.
Therefore, with the intervention of the Ministry of Public Security and according to the court’s decision, visa issuance was resumed according to the old system within the past 24 hours. Starting at midnight yesterday, getting a visa was easy. Foreigners can now easily apply for a visa online. Visas will be issued within 24 hours after these activities are started.
The visa issue caused great distress. Now, we have solved the problem. We consulted the Attorney General about it, and we acted immediately according to the court decision.
Also, we have already taken steps to immediately implement a forensic audit of the irregularity caused by providing this to VFS. The audit will investigate the irregularities in this transaction, and legal action will be taken in the future.
Those in the business and investment field will now also get the same facility.”
