Another conspiracy defeated, General election date is constitutional, petition dismissed!
The Supreme Court has ordered today (04) to reject the rights petition, challenging the decision to hold the General Election on November 14 without hearing it.
The order was issued by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Prithi Padman Surasena, Shiran Gunaratne and Priyantha Fernando, after a long consideration of the facts.
After considering the facts presented by Mr. Viraj Dayaratne, Additional Solicitor General, who appeared for the Attorney General, this order was issued stating that the President has correctly set the date of the general elections for the 14th of this month in accordance with the Election Act.
The petition was submitted by a civil organization activist and the convener of “We are Sri Lanka National Organization,” H.M. By Priyantha Herath.
The Attorney General, the President’s Secretary, the Chairman of the Election Commission and other members were named as respondents on behalf of the President.
