World recognition to Sri Lanka – gets second highest number of votes in UN Commission

Sri Lanka is included among the 31 members elected to the UN Commission on International Trade Law by the UN General Assembly on the 20th.
Sri Lanka competed for a seat on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law from the Asia Pacific Group and secured 177 votes. This is the highest number of votes obtained by a country in the Asia-Pacific group and also the highest number of votes obtained among the 31 members elected to the commission.
Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea from the Asia Pacific region have also been elected to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
The membership is valid for 6 years and will start from next January. The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law is the main legal commission for international trade. One of its objectives is to remove barriers to international trade.
