MR leaves Wijerama Road residence (Update)

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has left his official residence in Wijerama Road, Colombo, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam has said.
A large crowd was seen gathered outside the residence.

MR to return to Carlton House today

Former President – Mahinda Rajapaksa will hand over his official residence on Wijerama Road, Colombo 07, today (Sep. 11) and return to his family home – Carlton House in Tangalle, his son and SLPP National Organizer MP – Namal Rajapaksa announced yesterday (Sep. 10).

This move follows Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has endorsed the certification on the Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill, which was passed in Parliemant yesterday.

Meanwhile, a special ceremony to welcome the former President has been organized at Carlton House at 4.00 pm today.

Earlier in the day, several foreign diplomats are also expected to visit Mr. Rajapaksa and bid him farewell.

However, MP Namal Rajapaksa noted that the Maha Sangha, business leaders, and Sri Lankans overseas have expressed willingness to provide a residence for the former President.

In recent weeks, public from faraway districts such as Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and Kegalle were also seen visiting the former President at the Wijerama residence, inquiring into his well-being.
