Ruhuna Uni. slashes student intake?

Source

The University of Ruhuna reportedly enrolled 216 fewer students for the new academic year compared to the previous year due to limited facilities, ‘Aruna’ newspaper reports.

Accordingly, the intake reduction includes 60 students from the Faculty of Medicine, 100 from the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences as well as 10 from the Department of Computer Science.

The report further states :

The 60 students who could have joined the Faculty of Medicine have been redirected to the medical faculties of Sabaragamuwa University and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

Parents of students who had hoped to enter the Medical Faculty of the university but had been affected by the intake reduction, have criticized the move, claiming it is unfair to their children.

They argue that it is unacceptable for the University Grants Commission (UGC) to approve the reduction, as it denies their children the opportunity to study at a faculty with better facilities.
