A digital signature system has been launched for state sector officials in Sri Lanka to streamline official duties and improve efficiency.
Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government – Prof. Chandana Aberathne has said the government aims to digitalize the public service and guide it towards a modern, efficient path.
He made these remarks yesterday (Sep. 15) at an event introducing digital signatures to officials of the Home Affairs Division of the Ministry.
The Minister said his objective is to create an efficient public service that meets the expectations of the people.
He added that this new technology should be expanded up to the level of Grama Niladhari officers.
As part of the program, the digitization of signatures of officials attached to District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats under the Home Affairs Division has been launched.
The initiative is being implemented under the Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006, with LankaPay designated as the certification authority for digital signatures.
Officials noted that the system will help prevent delays in handling correspondence and enable faster, more productive services to the public.
Meanwhile, officials present at the event included Secretary to the Ministry – S. Aloka Bandara and several senior officials of the Home Affairs Division.
