Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya departed the island last night (15) to attend a police conference in China, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address.

In his absence, Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake, who oversees the Central Province and the Police Administration Division, has been appointed as Acting IGP. Notably, this marks the fifth occasion on which he has served in the acting role.

IGP Weerasuriya is expected to return to the island on 20 September.

China continues to extend support to the Sri Lanka Police through specialized training programs. At present, several Sri Lankan police officers, including a Senior DIG, are undergoing training in China.
