PM Modi Invited To Egypt’s Gaza Peace Summit Co-Chaired By Trump

An international peace summit is set to occur in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, 13 October. The event, known as the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, will be co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. This meeting aims to finalise an agreement to end the conflict in Gaza.

The summit's primary goal is to solidify the recently established ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. It also seeks to create a framework for enduring peace and stability in the Middle East. According to the Egyptian presidency, "The summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the region, and usher in a new phase of security."

Global Participation at the Summit

Leaders from over 20 countries are expected at this significant gathering. The United States has invited several key international partners such as Spain, Japan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Hungary, India, El Salvador, Cyprus, Greece, Bahrain, Kuwait and Canada. Iran has also received an invitation; however, Israel will not be part of these discussions.

The Government of India confirmed that PM Modi was invited but MoS MEA Kirti Vardhan Singh will represent India at the summit. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is among those attending this crucial meeting in Egypt.

Ceasefire Implementation and Humanitarian Measures

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect last Friday after three days of intense negotiations held in Sharm el-Sheikh. These talks were mediated by Egypt along with Qatar, Turkey and the United States. The first phase involves withdrawing Israeli troops from key areas like Gaza City and Rafah while opening five humanitarian crossings.

This summit will provide a platform for leaders to endorse the ceasefire deal further. They will also discuss implementing humanitarian aid and reconstruction measures for Gaza. As reported earlier, the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt is anticipated to reopen by mid-next week for limited civilian movement.

The meeting reflects President Trump's broader vision of achieving peace globally by ending conflicts. It aims not only at consolidating recent gains but also at setting a path towards long-term regional stability.
