AWS Outage Hits Major US Regions

Most outages were concentrated in the US-East-1 region, accounting for 77% of reports, followed by US-West-1 with 13% and US-West-2 with 10%. While the eastern United States saw the biggest impact, the west coast also experienced disruptions.

Amazon.com Users Report Massive Issues

By the same time, over 14,000 Amazon users reported problems accessing Amazon.com. The mobile app appeared most affected (53%), followed by the homepage (26%) and shopping cart (22%).

Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Downdetector were flooded with posts about AWS down reports. Users shared screenshots showing Amazon's server status changing from "Degraded" to "Impacted."

Global Impact Beyond Amazon

Reports also surfaced from users worldwide, noting that smart home devices, Amazon Music, Kindle, and delivery services like Amazon Relay were affected. Some users also mentioned issues with Canvas, Flex, and Prime Video, showing how deeply AWS powers modern web infrastructure.

One user wrote, "ALL sites using AWS are down - check Twitter for live updates."

What Is Amazon Web Services (AWS)?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is Amazon's cloud computing division, offering tools like Amazon S3 for storage and EC2 for cloud processing. Many global apps and sites depend on AWS infrastructure for hosting and backend services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud provider at the center of the outage, has released an update:

"We are seeing significant signs of recovery. Most requests should now be succeeding. We continue to work through a backlog of queued requests and will provide additional updates as they become available," the company reported on its website.

For context, AWS powers the infrastructure behind millions of websites and apps, meaning disruptions can have widespread effects across the internet.
