US President Donald Trump landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday, beginning his Asia tour. He will participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and attend related high-level meetings during his visit.

President Donald Trump began his Asia tour with a visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the 47th ASEAN Summit, where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He will then proceed to Japan to meet Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korea for the APEC Summit, including a discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Free Malaysia Today reported that Trump touched down at 9:35 am local time. He was welcomed by Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, marking his first visit to the country in eight years and his first participation in the ASEAN Summit since 2017.
Warm Reception and Cultural Welcome
The president was greeted with a ceremonial welcome at the airport, featuring cultural performances and dancers waving the flags of both Malaysia and the United States. This visit marks Trump's first participation in the ASEAN Summit since 2017 and his first trip to Asia since returning to the White House.
Scheduled Meetings and Bilateral Talks
Trump's visit includes bilateral discussions with the Malaysian president, along with a working lunch with other Southeast Asian leaders. Malaysia, serving as this year's ASEAN chair, has set "Inclusivity and Sustainability" as the summit theme.
The White House also highlighted that Trump will witness the signing of a peace declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, a deal brokered earlier this year by the US president to end a long-standing regional conflict.
Next Stops: Japan and South Korea
Following Malaysia, Trump will leave for Japan on Monday morning for a one-day visit, where he will meet the country's new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi. Ahead of his arrival in Kuala Lumpur, Trump had a phone conversation with Takaichi, emphasizing the enduring US-Japan relationship.
He will then travel to South Korea to attend the APEC Summit, during which he is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The leaders are expected to discuss a comprehensive trade agreement and developments regarding the war in Ukraine.
