Source

A group of young Opposition politicians representing the South visited Jaffna on Friday at the invitation of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) to better understand the social and economic challenges faced by communities in the Northern Province.

The delegation, composed of representatives from multiple political parties, included participants of a recent study tour to India that brought together 24 young politicians from 14 parties.

ITAK MPs Shanakyan Rasamanickam and Durairasa Ravikaran, former MP M. A. Sumanthiran, and party leader C. V. K. Sivagnanam received the Southern delegation.

Among the visitors were Milinda Rajapaksa of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Chamindrani Kiriella and Amila Prasad Siriwardana representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

Sumanthiran said that although many participants of the Indian program accepted ITAK’s invitation, none of the six Government representatives who joined the Indian visit attended the Jaffna program. The delegation was due to tour the Kankesanthurai Port, Palaly Airport, and several areas where private lands remain under Government control and are yet to be released to their original owners.
