Trump Slams Ukraine For ‘Zero Gratitude,’ Criticises Europe Over Russian Oil Purchases

US President Donald Trump has once more voiced his discontent over Ukraine's perceived lack of appreciation for American aid in its conflict with Russia. This sentiment was expressed on social media, where Trump also lamented the ongoing war's severe humanitarian toll and criticised Europe for its continued oil purchases from Russia. His remarks coincided with a planned meeting between US and Ukrainian officials in Geneva.

"I INHERITED A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, A WAR THAT IS A LOSER FOR EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE SO NEEDLESSLY DIED," Trump declared on Truth Social. He further stated, "UKRAINE 'LEADERSHIP' HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA." These comments highlight his frustration with the ongoing situation.

During a session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, 2025, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York. Their discussions are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. Meanwhile, Trump has set a deadline of November 27 for Ukraine to approve a contentious peace plan, although Kyiv reportedly seeks amendments to the draft.

Diplomatic Efforts and Military Support

Trump highlighted the US's role in providing substantial military support to NATO for Ukraine. He criticised his predecessor, Joe Biden, for allegedly supplying Ukraine with resources without charge. The US president concluded his social media post with a solemn, "GOD BLESS ALL THE LIVES THAT HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE HUMAN CATASTROPHE!"

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, ahead of the Geneva talks, expressed optimism about the renewed diplomatic efforts. "The bloodshed must be stopped," he stated on X, emphasising the necessity for a "positive outcome." Zelenskyy’s comments reflect Ukraine's desire for constructive dialogue in ending the nearly four-year conflict.

The Geneva meeting aims to discuss a proposal to cease hostilities, with both sides hopeful for progress. However, Ukraine's request for changes to the plan, which includes some of Russia's stringent demands, suggests that achieving consensus may be challenging.
