An Indian disaster relief aircraft carrying two fully-equipped mobile hospitals donated by the Government of India arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, at 5.45 pm today (02).

The aircraft transported 73 medical and support personnel, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and military medical staff, alongside essential equipment such as scanners, pharmaceuticals, water bowser units, ambulances, waste disposal units and all other materials required to operate a complete hospital facility.

One of the mobile hospitals is scheduled to be established in the Welimada area, although Indian officials stated that access to the proposed site remains difficult at present.

The relief aircraft, which arrived from Agra, India, was received at the airport by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Sri Lanka Army.
