Russian President Vladimir Putin is in India for a high-impact 27-hour visit aimed at boosting one of the world's most enduring strategic partnerships. He landed in New Delhi on Thursday night, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi received him with a warm embrace at Palam airport - a diplomatic gesture highlighting the depth of India-Russia ties. This is Putin's first India visit in four years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's 27-hour visit to India, his first in four years, included meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and discussions on economic restructuring, aiming for $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
Day 2 of the visit is packed with key engagements:
- 11:00 am: Ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan
- 11:30 am: Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat
- 11:50 am: High-level talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House
- 1:50 pm: Joint press conference
- 3:40 pm: Address at the India-Russia Business Forum
- 7:00 pm: Meeting with President Droupadi Murmu
- 9:00 pm: Departure for Moscow
The visit comes at a crucial time, as both nations adjust to shifting geopolitical realities. Experts note that despite global turbulence, India and Russia have maintained a stable partnership built on decades of defence cooperation, political trust and economic coordination.
At the heart of the Modi-Putin dialogue is economic restructuring. India is expected to push for a solution to its growing trade deficit with Russia - a consequence of rising oil imports. Both leaders will unveil a long-term roadmap extending to 2030, setting an ambitious target of $100 billion in bilateral trade by the end of the decade.
The Russian business delegation in Delhi is one of the largest in recent years, signalling Moscow's intent to diversify imports and strengthen supply chains. The visit is expected to deliver new agreements across sectors such as shipping, healthcare, fertilisers, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and connectivity.
Despite global uncertainties, the message from New Delhi is clear: the India-Russia relationship remains steady, strategic and forward-looking.
