
The Disaster Management Centre states that the number of fatalities caused by the disaster situation affecting all 25 districts of the island has risen to 627.
According to the latest update issued at 12.00 noon today (07), a further 190 individuals remain missing.
A total of 2,179,138 people belonging to 611,530 families have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
According to the report released by the Disaster Management Centre, the highest number of deaths, amounting to 232, has been reported from the Kandy District.
Meanwhile, 89 deaths have been reported from the Nuwara Eliya District, 90 from Badulla, 61 from Kurunegala, 32 from Kegalle, 35 from Puttalam“ and 28 from Matale.
The statement further notes that 89,857 people from 27,663 families are still being housed in safe centres.
