
International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives commended the importance of Sri Lanka’s industrial sector in driving economic stability and growth during a discussion held yesterday (6) with the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, led by Minister Sunil Handunnetti.
The meeting focused on the sector’s potential, ongoing economic reforms, and the need to strengthen support for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
Discussions also covered removing barriers to production, simplifying export processes, creating a favorable environment for foreign investment, and providing relief and financial facilities to local industries in line with the IMF programme. Senior ministry officials, Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, and IMF representatives including Resident Representative Martha Woldemichael, economist Klakow Akepanidtaworn, and economist Ursula Wiriadinata were also present.
