July 30, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka opened its medal account at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with an impressive performance from para athlete Palitha Bandara, who captured the silver medal in the men’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64 final.

Bandara delivered another outstanding display on the international stage to secure a place on the podium, continuing his consistent success in one of the Games’ premier para-athletics events. His latest achievement provides an early boost to Sri Lanka’s campaign and highlights the country’s growing strength in para sport.

The silver medal also marks a significant personal milestone for Bandara, who has now finished runner-up in the same event at two successive Commonwealth Games. He first claimed silver at the Birmingham 2022 Games, making this his second consecutive Commonwealth medal in the men’s discus throw.
