August 09, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka’s 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination is currently under way today (09), with nearly 300,000 pupils sitting the examination at 2,723 centres across the island.
According to the Department of Examinations, 294,089 candidates are taking part in this year’s examination. Of them, 220,366 are sitting in the Sinhala medium, while 73,723 candidates are writing the examination in Tamil.
The examination began at 9.30 a.m., with candidates required to be seated in their respective examination halls by 9.00 a.m. Officials had urged students to reach their centres well in advance to avoid unnecessary stress and allow sufficient time to settle down before the papers began.
Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari has reminded candidates to pay close attention to the instructions provided on each question paper. Students have also been asked to ensure that their examination numbers are entered accurately and that answers are written clearly and legibly.
The second question paper is being conducted first, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.45 a.m. After a short interval, candidates will sit the first question paper from 11.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m.
Examination authorities have also reiterated that mobile phones, smartwatches, written notes and other electronic devices are not permitted inside examination halls.
Parents and guardians have been encouraged to ensure that children remain calm and focused as they complete the examination, which is an important academic milestone for Grade 5 pupils across the country.
