August 11, Colombo (LNW): A 41-year-old man wanted in connection with serious criminal cases in Peradeniya has been returned to Sri Lanka from Malaysia and handed over to local police for further investigations.
The suspect, identified as Dhanushka Kaushalya, also known as ‘Ratmalane Saima’, was brought back to the country yesterday by a special police team headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala.
Police said an international Red Notice had been issued for the suspect, who was arrested in Malaysia during a joint operation involving the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit and Malaysian law enforcement authorities.
Following his arrival in Sri Lanka, the suspect was placed in the custody of the Peradeniya Police, who are expected to conduct further inquiries into the allegations against him.
According to police, the suspect is wanted over a 2014 incident in Peradeniya in which a person was allegedly abducted at gunpoint and subsequently assaulted, resulting in serious injuries. He is also facing allegations relating to the fatal shooting of another individual in the Peradeniya area in 2016.
Authorities have further identified him as an associate of the organised criminal figure known as ‘Kanjipani Imran’.
Two other Sri Lankan nationals, aged 35 and 31 and also residents of Ratmalana, were reportedly arrested alongside him in Malaysia. Police said investigations are continuing to establish their alleged involvement in criminal activities and determine whether they are connected to the cases being investigated in Sri Lanka.
The latest development follows increased cooperation between Sri Lankan and Malaysian authorities in locating and returning suspects wanted in connection with serious offences.
