The Department of Meteorology has issued a No Tsunami Threat Bulletin following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the Indian Ocean early this morning (15), confirming that there is currently no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka.
According to the Met. Department, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 14 kilometres, with its epicentre located in Indonesia’s Flores Region at coordinates 8.51°S latitude and 121.39°E longitude.
The Department said Sri Lanka’s coastal areas remain safe and that the bulletin was issued following consultations with relevant national and international agencies.
