August 31, Colombo (LNW): Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya has left Sri Lanka for Bhutan, where she is due to take part in the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit, bringing together political leaders, policymakers and other international stakeholders to discuss the future of sustainable food systems.
The Prime Minister is expected to address the summit’s opening plenary on 1 September, delivering a keynote speech centred on the theme, “Rising to the Moment: Igniting Consciousness to Address the Polycrisis”.
Her participation is expected to highlight Sri Lanka’s perspectives on food security, sustainable agriculture and the need to strengthen communities against growing global challenges.
During her stay in Bhutan, Amarasuriya will also hold discussions with international leaders and representatives attending the summit. The talks are expected to focus on deepening international collaboration on sustainable food production, improving food security and developing more resilient communities.
The summit provides an opportunity for Sri Lanka to share its experiences and engage with other countries on practical approaches to building food systems that are environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive and better equipped to withstand future crises.
