August 31, Colombo (LNW): The Sri Lankan modelling and pageant industry is mourning the sudden death of Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana, widely known as Chula, a prominent model, actress and pageant trainer, who passed away at the age of 46.
Kumarapathirana had remained active in the entertainment and pageant circuit until her death. She had hosted a pageant programme at Waters Edge on the previous evening and was reportedly in good health while carrying out her professional commitments.
According to reports, she became unwell unexpectedly at her residence and was subsequently taken to the National Hospital in Colombo for medical treatment. She later died at the hospital.
A heart attack is among the suspected causes, although an official determination regarding her death has not yet been made public.
News of her passing has prompted an outpouring of shock among colleagues, contestants and others associated with Sri Lanka’s modelling and pageant scene, particularly given that she had been on stage only hours before her death.
