Sri Lanka Records Nearly 98,000 Dengue Cases This Year

September 14, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka has recorded 97,637 cases of dengue so far this year, with the mosquito-borne disease claiming 74 lives, according to figures released by the National Dengue Control Unit.

The latest data indicate that transmission remains a significant public health concern, with a further 2,146 infections reported during the first 13 days of September alone.

Gampaha remains the worst-affected district, accounting for 20,742 cases since the beginning of the year. Colombo has reported the second-highest number, with 19,235 infections recorded over the same period.

Kandy has registered 7,291 cases, while Kalutara has reported a further 6,247.

The figures highlight the continuing burden of dengue across several of Sri Lanka’s most densely populated districts, with thousands of new infections being recorded as the country moves through September.
