Court Orders Hospital Chief to Explain Missing Medical Reports on Former SIS Director
September 15, Colombo (LNW): The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has directed the Director of the Colombo National Hospital to appear before court on 22 September and provide an explanation for the failure to produce medical reports relating to former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay.
Sallay, who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, is connected to an ongoing investigation that was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.
The order was made after Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the prosecution, requested the court to address the absence of the medical documentation.
The Magistrate subsequently ordered that a notice be served on the hospital director, requiring him to appear in person and clarify why the relevant reports had not been submitted.
During the proceedings, the prosecution also drew the court’s attention to the role of former SIS Police Inspector Ranjan Senarath Bandara in the continuing investigation.
The Additional Solicitor General informed the court that investigators considered Bandara to be a person whose presence was necessary for the inquiry. He also raised concerns that the police officer could leave the country and sought an order restricting his overseas travel.
After considering the submission, Magistrate Amarasena imposed a travel ban on Bandara, preventing him from leaving Sri Lanka.
The latest orders come as investigators continue examining matters connected to the case, with the court expected to receive further information when the proceedings resume on 22 September.
