Air attack on Tissamaharama – comes to light after three and a half decades

After three and a half decades, it has been revealed that air strikes were carried out against masses who protested against the signing of the JR Rajiv agreement in a government where Ranil Wickramasinghe was a powerful minister under President JR Jayawardene. JR signed the agreement with Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi without informing anyone.
Journalist Udeni Saman Kumara revealed that past in an article written to the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper last Sunday.
It is mentioned in the article that “the Air Force used helicopters to fire at the patriots who came from all directions to the Tissamaharama sacred area, and a large number of people were shot dead in the temple courtyard. It was not second to the attack on Sri Maha Bodhi by the LTTE.
