
A specialist Japanese emergency medical team arrived on the island last night (Nov. 30).
The team is tasked with assessing urgent medical intervention needs among the affected population amid Sri Lanka’s ongoing disaster situation and submitting its findings to Japan’s Ministry of Health.
The team consists of a 05-member medical team, accompanied by an assessment team from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Based on their assessment, Japan is expected to dispatch a full emergency medical contingent, including doctors, nurses, support staff, and essential medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, to Sri Lanka in the coming days.
A delegation led by Director General of Health Services – Dr. Asela Gunawardena, senior Health Ministry officials, and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka and JICA were present at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, to receive the team.
