The release of the so-called Epstein Files has triggered worldwide debate, drawing attention to thousands of documents connected to the criminal network of late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The Epstein Files, released in phases by the U.S. Department of Justice, contain records related to Jeffrey Epstein's criminal network, including names like filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who denied any involvement; these files include emails, photos, and investigation materials gathered over years.
Among the many names circulating in unverified emails and records is filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who has strongly denied any involvement.
The documents, which have been released in phases, include emails, photos, videos and investigative material gathered over several years.
While the files mention many public figures from different fields, authorities have clarified that the appearance of a name in these documents does not automatically suggest wrongdoing.
What Are the Epstein Files?
The Epstein Files is an informal term used for a massive collection of records related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who faced multiple allegations of trafficking and exploitation of minors. These records were compiled by investigators over more than a decade through criminal probes, civil lawsuits and federal inquiries.
In late 2025 and early 2026, the United States Department of Justice released millions of pages of these materials under transparency laws.
The files contain witness statements, emails, social calendars, flight logs and various forms of correspondence connected to Epstein's network and activities.
Officials have repeatedly stressed that many names appearing in the documents are not accused of any crime. In several cases, individuals are mentioned only in emails, contact lists or social settings, without any evidence of illegal activity.
Anurag Kashyap's Name in Unverified Emails
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's name surfaced in some unverified documents that are being circulated online. The emails reportedly referred to him as a "Bollywood guy" and a "famous Bollywood director," and suggested he was invited to an Epstein-linked event planned in Beijing in 2017.
However, there is no confirmation that such an event took place or that Kashyap attended it. The references are part of email exchanges that have not been verified as proof of any involvement.
Kashyap quickly responded to the reports and dismissed the claims. He said he had no knowledge of the matter and had never travelled to Beijing.
"I've no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond. Also, I have never been to Beijing in my life," he said while speaking to media outlets.
He also questioned the credibility of the emails being circulated. "It's some random email, that's self explanatory. The click baits in my name are more popular than my films," he added.
Names Across Politics, Business and Entertainment
The Epstein Files mention a wide range of public figures from around the world, including leaders from politics, business, entertainment and academia. Several well-known names appear in different contexts, often without any allegations of wrongdoing.
Investigative records include references to Epstein's social interactions, professional contacts and personal network. Many individuals appear only in contact lists or social calendars, which does not indicate criminal involvement.
The documents also include material related to Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a prison sentence for her role in trafficking.
Epstein's Case and Global Attention
Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on multiple charges related to sex trafficking and abuse. In August 2019, he died in a federal jail in New York while awaiting trial.
His death and the scale of his connections led to intense global scrutiny and numerous investigations.
The ongoing release of documents continues to attract attention as authorities and the public examine the extent of Epstein's network.
However, officials have repeatedly warned against drawing conclusions based solely on the presence of names in the files.
As discussions continue, the focus remains on verified evidence and confirmed links rather than unverified references circulating online.
