Assistance of the Sri Lanka Army have been obtained to help control the forest fire currently raging in the Nonpareil Reserve in Balangoda, reports say.
According to reports, the fire has already destroyed over 1,000 acres of land with winds making it difficult to contain the blaze.
However, some progress has been made in bringing the blaze under control, reports add.
State owned ITN reports that the SLA, along with the Disaster Management Unit of the Ratnapura District, is currently engaged in firefighting efforts.
