Cabral and four others indicted
Charge sheets have been handed over before the Colombo High Court today (10) against four defendants, including former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral.
They have been accused of causing the Sri Lankan government to lose over 1.8 billion rupees by investing the money it owned in Greek bonds in 2012, despite Greece’s severe economic crisis.
After handing over the charge sheets filed by the Bribery Commission, the court ordered the defendants released on bail of 10 million rupees each.
The court also banned the defendants from travelling abroad and ordered that they hand over their passports to the court and get permission from the court if they needed to go overseas.
