CID probes fraudulent EV registrations under import scheme for migrant workers

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Sep. 15) that a broad investigation has been launched into the fraudulent registration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) imported under a special licence / permit scheme granted to Sri Lankan migrant workers.

Noting that investigations on these EVs registered at the Department of Motor Traffic in Narahenpita using forged documents, are underway, CID officials informed the Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva that details of 04 such vehicles have already been uncovered.

The Additional Magistrate ordered the CID to continue its investigations and submit progress reports to the court.
