October 11, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lankan educator, television personality and actress Nimesha Premachandra is preparing to turn her international pageant success into an opportunity to showcase the island’s attractions to a global audience after winning the Mrs. Tourism World 2026 crown in the Philippines.
Premachandra met Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath and Deputy Tourism Minister Professor Ruwan Ranasinghe at the ministry on 9 October, where discussions centred on how her international profile could help strengthen Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion efforts.
The meeting explored ways to use her visibility on the world stage to highlight the country’s rich cultural traditions, scenic landscapes, heritage sites and diverse travel experiences. Her involvement could offer an additional platform for presenting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination to prospective visitors overseas.
She secured the prestigious title in Manila on 2 October, emerging as the winner among contestants representing around 20 countries. Her success was further distinguished by four additional accolades: Ambassador for Education, Best in Runway, Best in Talent – Silver and the Woman of Influence Award.
Beyond the pageant, Premachandra promotes an initiative titled “Connecting Cultures. Nurturing Future Citizens”, which places emphasis on cultural understanding, educational opportunities, empowering women and supporting disadvantaged children.
The ministry said the discussions considered how her achievements and advocacy work could be channelled into efforts to raise Sri Lanka’s profile internationally and attract greater interest in its tourism offerings.
Her new role presents an opportunity to connect the recognition earned abroad with the promotion of Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and natural appeal, while helping communicate the country’s story to audiences far beyond its shores.
