Ex-SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe Arrested
Nishantha Wickramasinghe, the former Chairman of SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka, was arrested this morning (27) by officials from Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The arrest took place in the Nawala area and is linked to an ongoing investigation into the controversial purchase of aircraft during his tenure. Authorities have confirmed that a statement is currently being recorded from him.
Wickramasinghe, who is also the brother-in-law of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has long faced allegations of corruption. The J.C. Weliamuna report—an independent inquiry into mismanagement at SriLankan Airlines—had previously detailed multiple instances of financial misconduct and abuse of public funds under his leadership.
