The Court of Appeal has been informed that the expert committee’s report on the engine capacity of BYD vehicles is expected within the next few weeks.
President’s Counsel (PC) and Senior Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, who appeared on behalf of the Customs, stated this when proceedings of a writ petition filed by John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd, was taken up yesterday (Sep. 15).
He added that once the report is received, it will likely help to resolve the core issue of the case.
The case was heard before a bench comprising CA President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya PC and Justice K. Priyantha Fernando.
Following this, the CA ordered that the hearing of the case be postponed until Sep. 22 for further consideration.
The committee was tasked with examining the vehicles, which had earlier been detained by Sri Lanka Customs but were later released on bank guarantees pending final determination.
