For the first time in Sri Lanka’s history, all the people have come under one flag, says President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power.
He emphasized this while addressing the Vanni district candidates’ meeting of the National People’s Power held at the Vavuniya Municipal Council grounds yesterday (10).

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said, “We all know that on November 14, the election to elect new MPs for the Parliament will be held. We have come to meet you to request to bring victory to National People’s Power from  Vanni district in that election and send a number of MPs to the Parliament.
Last September 21, there was a big contest in our country’s politics. During that presidential election, the former President came to Vavuniya. The people of Vanni also voted to some extent. But will you vote for him this time? The leader of the opposition also came to Vavuniya during the last presidential election. Will you vote for him in this general election? No. Why is it that they are only interested in your vote? In the last presidential election, the people of Vanni district gave us 21,000 votes. Though it was excellent support for the overall victory of the National People’s Power, we lost in the Wanni district that day.
In the Wanni district, politics is divided according to different community groups. Muslim parties are targeting the Muslim people. They supported the leader of the opposition in the last presidential election. There are Tamil parties targeting the Tamil people. They also got on the platform of the leader of the opposition. There were also other parties centred on the Tamil people. They ascended the platform of the former President. However, a single party contested in Vanni without any distinction between Tamils ​​and Muslims. It is the National People’s Power. You gave 21,000 votes to the National People’s Power. It is a great victory for the National People’s Power.
Our country is divided in every way. Divided into Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim. They are divided into Hindu, Islam, Catholic and Buddhist. There are also different castes. Our country cannot move forward in this way if it is divided.
The main expectation of our government is to end all these divisions. We must end the era when people were divided according to their culture, the language they spoke, and the religion they believed in. Its initial step is that all the people should come under one flag as a political ideology and movement. Uniting by dividing according to castes and doing politics is impossible. To unite, we must create one movement with all races and their leaders. That movement is the National People’s Power. If you send us some MPs from this Wanni district, we are sure that they will represent Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim. It is how we must win. We must end the era of Sinhalese choosing Sinhala parties and Muslims choosing Muslim parties. We should unite the Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil people under one flag. We are very confident that it can be done.”
