Gota, Mahinda, Basil responsible for the present crisis – Supreme Court
The judgment given yesterday (14th) by the majority of the five-judge bench of judges of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya states the group, including former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former Finance Ministers Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, is responsible for the current economic crisis.
The other respondents are former Governors of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Prof. W.D. Laxman, former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance S.R. Atygala, former Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundara and members of the Finance Council of the Central Bank.
The decision was given after hearing two fundamental rights petitions filed by a group including Chandra Jayaratne, the former president of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, requesting an investigation regarding the people responsible for the current economic crisis.
Accordingly, a court fee of 150,000 rupees has also been ordered for the respondents who have filed this case.
