How drug prices will drop further & how to get medicine that costs $397 for $97
Dr. Savin Semage, Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Regulatory Authority, said that due to the creation of competition between drug companies, the price of a drug valued at $397 has been reduced to $97.
He said this while participating in a program with a TV channel.
Speaking further he said,” “The Drug Regulatory Authority had started a scheme to regulate prices in 2019. Before that, the prices given by pharmaceutical companies were recorded in the registration certificates. It was done based on the belief that the pharmaceutical companies would give these scheduled prices.
The National Drug Regulatory Authority has accumulated a large number of registrations due to various reasons. About 2000. Some registration applications are about 08 years old. Within the last year, we were able to reduce those 2000 premiums to 750.
Since we also gave new registrations, we have been able to reduce a drug that was last purchased in Sri Lanka for $397 to $98 this time due to increasing competition.”
