Source

Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Ilangasinghe again issued summons yesterday (4) to Janaka Ratnayake, the former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission, and his wife to appear before the court on December 10.
It is related to the non-payment of over three million rupees worth of VAT due to the government on behalf of a computer service provider in the Kirulapana area.
Janaka Rathnayake and his wife Kumari Yasoda Silva, the husband and wife, were the defendants in this incident and were summoned to appear before the court.
However, the respondents did not appear before the court; instead, another company director was presented before the court.
Therefore, the lawyer Dinesh Perera, who represented the Inland Revenue Commissioner General, requested the court issue summons again informing the respondent’s husband and wife to appear before the court.
Colombo Additional Magistrate, who considered the request, has again issued this order.
Lawyer Dinesh Perera informed the court that they should pay the government Rs. 31,846,248.24 in arrears for the years 2016, 2017, and 2018 and Rs. 1,851,658.37 in income tax arrears totalling Rs. 33,697,906.61, but they have defaulted on the payment.
